37 Pound Gag! **CURRENT CONDITIONS**

Forget Golfing ~ Go Gulfing!
Every Wednesday with Captain John!

Weather has been wacky again here warm then cold...warm, cold, warm, cold. The Gulf temp is a chilly 60 to 65 degrees but visibility has been great when the seas are down. Lots of Grouper in shallow for you fishermen. Gulf trips are available throughout the winter, weather permitting. So far this winter we have had 6

boating deaths in the Gulf due to hypothermia, so I thought I should speak a little about it. Two kids on a water scooter got stranded in 60 degree water when the jet ski's intake sucked up a crab trap line. The boys were wearing only bathing suits and PFDs. Four men took off to try out a boat, 3 were found dead the next day 12 miles offshore in 60 degree water, the other is still missing. No marine radio was on board. The vessel was a lake boat and not fit for the Gulf. These deaths could have been prevented.

What is cold water? Waters below 72 degrees are considered cold by divers. But Water temperatures below 91 degrees can cause Hypothermia.

WATER TEMP. EXHAUSTION SURVIVAL TIME

32.5 degrees Under 15 min. Under 15 TO 45 min.
32.5 to 40 15 to 30 min. 30 to 90 min.
40 to 50 30 to 60 min. 1 to 3 hrs.
50 to 60 1 to 2 hrs 1 to 6 hrs.
60 to 70 2 to 7 hrs 2 to 40 hrs.
70 to 80 3 to 12 hrs 3 hrs. to indefinite
Over 80 Indefinite Indefinite

The 50's Rules at a Water Temperature of 50 Degrees

An average adult person has a 50/50 chance of surviving a 50 yard swim in 50 degree water.

A 50 year old person in 50 degree F water has a 50/50 chance of surviving for 50 minutes.

How can divers survive cold water?

1 - Don wetsuits (at least half a suit, pulled down to the waist) at the dock, in case of a boating  accident, wetsuits provide floatation and warmth. Fishermen, buy and use a wetsuit in cold water.

2 - Heat is lost most in the head, neck and shoulders, make sure the head is covered, a hood is desirable, but a hat will do. Keep your face out of the water. Heat loss also occurs in the armpits and groin, keeping those areas covered is also important.

3 - Staying still in the HELP position (head high, knees to chest) or in the HUDDLE  position (huddling with other survivors) and by wearing a PFD (life vest) can increase survival in 50 degree water from two hours (the survival rate for a person swimming or treading water without floatation) to seven hours -- add a wetsuit and hood survive up to 40 hours to indefinite times (depending on the thickness of the suit).

4 - When you venture out in cold water, you'd better know something about boating and boating safety. To leave the dock without safety knowledge, safety gear and a marine radio is taking your life in your hands.

I will be diving the Gulf off of Clearwater every Wednesday throughout the winter so come join me.
I will be diving Crystal River every weekend and more and more manatees are showing up every day. There are over 378 in the river now.

Click here to Boycott Perrier! **BOTTLED WATER**

Probably the biggest threat to Florida Springs is the water miner, Perrier/Nestle, Dannon (Danone) and a host of other water pirates.
One of the best dive training areas was Crystal Springs in Zephyrhills, Florida. Great for O/W pool sessions this
12' deep spring had fish and other fresh water creatures to play with while working on diving skills. The place was beautiful and was a cooling off spot for residents on hot summer days. That all ended when Perrier/Nestle bought the springs to pump out their product Zephyrhills Water (80 thousand gallons a day).

No one is allowed in Crystal Springs now and the place is run down, dirty (and is possibly contaminated with radioactive waste) see:
Save Our Springs, Inc.

Dannon (Danone owns Dannon & Coke owns Dasani see: See Coke and Dannon Deal ) is pumping water out of beautiful Ginnie Springs, a cave and cavern divers dream come true.... what bugs me is the the owners of Ginnie Springs sell the stuff themselves at the dive shop and that the divers buy it! Idiots!

Harvey Goodman, the property Nazi at Three Sisters Springs (Crystal River) wants to start pumping out water from Three Sisters by boring wells into the aquifer that supplies water to Three Sisters (another great O/W training area). The chief concern, which is loudly echoed by environmentalists, is that a bottling operation here would intercept water from the warm springs that are vital for manatees during the winter.

Our aquifer is supplied by rains and snow melt off from the Carolina mountains. Water runs underground to Florida where it pops out in Springs in areas with higher elevation. Sinking mines along the way depletes the water flow for everyone south of the mines, causing sinkholes and dry wells and other damage.

Well DARN IT! I have had enough!

Bottled water is highly unregulated. The National Resources Defense Council's study included testing of more than 1,000 bottles of 103 brands of bottled water. While most of the tested waters were found to be of high quality, some brands were contaminated: about one-third of the waters tested contained levels of contamination -- including synthetic organic chemicals, bacteria, and arsenic -- in at least one sample that exceeded allowable limits under either state or bottled water industry standards or guidelines. See NRDC test summary on bottled water. It is destructive to the environment. It costs more than gasoline, Coca Cola and a host of other beverages sold in similar sizes.

The first bottled water I seem to remember was Perrier. Yuppies would order it at my favorite watering holes like this, "Perrier on Ice with a twist"! Seems to me adding ice kind of defeated the purpose of buying bottled water. Bottled water with tap-water ice is a beverage for idiots!

Perrier was later found to have Benzene (Gasoline) in their product and there was huge recall. Perrier is for idiots!

Next came Evian (Danone). Evian spells naive, backwards. Sure, makes sense, one would have to naive to buy water. Evian is for idiots!

Once during a hurricane scare I saw a women on her knees at a local grocery store digging through the gallons of water, looking at the bottle and repeating this. Mystified, I asked her what see was doing. She replied, "I am looking for the older expiration dates!"  What an idiot!

No lie, water has an expiration date? What happens to water when it expires? Does it turn into Tap Water? Do you have to drink from a hose to get the taste out of your mouth? Idiots!

Boycott bottled water! Clean your own tap water by aeration and filter it through your coffee machine, boil it or send it through RO (reverse osmosis), our use filters Check out the filters at E-hydrated.com and Steam and Sauna Connection.

Boycott Perrier and Danone (Perrier is Swiss owned and Danone is French owned).

Remember the Swiss? Hitler's silent partners ~ Swiss banks and Nazi gold! Vienna, 1939: "If anything happens to us, I have money in Switzerland." These were among the last words that sixteen-year-old Rene Lang's grandfather said to her before he perished in the Holocaust. Fifty years later, Renee and thousands like her are trying to find their rightful inheritances in Swiss banks -- and the world faces appalling revelations that "neutral" Switzerland acted as secret banker to the Nazis, abetting the German war against the Jewish people. (Excerpted from Hitler's Silent Partners : Swiss Banks, Nazi Gold, and the Pursuit of Justice by Isabel Vincent. Copyright 1999).  Idiots!

Remember the French? We came France's rescue in World War I, World War II, Vietnam, and the Cold War, their ingratitude and jealousy surfaces at every chance. The French will not allow us to fly over their country to bomb terrorists. They have given us nothing but grief over the Saddam issue. They sold Exocet missiles to the Argentine Army to blow up the British. That is why France is a third-rate military power with a socialist economy and a bunch of faggots for soldiers. (Partial quote from Mary Beth Johnson Lt Col, USMC). Idiots!

Anyway, I digress. Please boycott bottled water.  Otherwise you may not have a spring to dive in. Go to: Save Our Springs, Inc. and Save Americas Water. Read their stories and support their efforts.

Boycott Bottled Water! Truth and Humor, Click here! How to boycott Perrier go to: Save Americas Water Boycott. Copy the logo to the left add it to your web site. In closing, I am glad they did not bottle water in the 50's and 60's. We would have twice the problem we have now. Surely the water pirates would have two product lines, one for "colored only" and another for "whites only"! Idiots!
If I have in any way offended you or you disagree with me on this issue in any way, please go to: Opinions to voice your views!
