Why SDI Solo diver?

Our solo diver course is one of our most popular SDI specialties. It is one of the many innovative ideas we have pioneered over the years… things like promoting the use of personal dive computers for sport diving, certifying younger divers, and promoting an advanced diver development program that really develops advanced skills. Our solo specialty is right up there and has set our agency apart from the competition. SDI is the only agency to teach the skills and equipment configuration necessary to safely pursue solo diving.

The solo diver program teaches experienced recreational divers how to safely dive independently of a dive buddy or strengthen your buddy team skills. The course stresses proper dive planning, personal limitations, accident prevention and the benefits, hazards, and proper procedures for diving solo. You will also learn the additional equipment that is required for Solo diving and how to configure that equipment. This is the prefect course for underwater photography, underwater video divers, underwater hunter or treasure salvors.

SDI has successfully promoted solo diving as an option for experienced sport divers engaged in certain activities. It is a program that is not suitable for every diver because divers must be willing to make the necessary commitment to train and equip themselves to manage the added risks independent diving involves.

Who is qualified for the SDI Solo diver course?

Prerequisites include:

Minimum age twenty one(21).
Minimum certification Level of Advanced Diver or Equivalent.
Minimum of one hundred (100) Logged Dives.
Good Underwater Navigation and Deep Diver skills.

Equipment maintained in excellent operating condition. Pony bottle or other redundant air source. Lift Bag and SMB (surface Marker Buoy) and appropriate up line and reel(s).

How long does the course take?

The SDI Solo diver course is 12 to 18 hours long, depending on your abilities and progess through the course.
